<!---##CCI#[Text Tag=head Group=All]--->More readers put together pieces <!---##CCI#[/Text]---> More readers put together pieces

I did a readers' wrap-up on Monday, but I have a few more to add today, all in response to the puzzle and puzzlers sites I wrote about on Aug. 20. I knew puzzle people were dedicated, I just didn't realize how many of you there were.

Several wrote just to make a comment on the column or to say thanks for covering the topic. Others answered my invitation to send in favorite sites that weren't included. I had four e-mails in the first day and am continuing to hear from folks. I love it. I'm glad there's this much interest. It tells me I'm not a lone voice in the world.

•  www.crea-soft.com. Traian Trante wrote the day the original puzzle article appeared. "I just saw your article for jigsaw puzzle Web sites.... Quite a nice collection -- . In the last year I tried to make a complete Web site for jigsaw puzzles on the computer. I have two desktop games (Lite and Pro versions) and the ability to play Flash jigsaw puzzles online. Can you please take a look at my site and see if you like it? If you think it is worthy, can you please add a link to it?"

Well, Traian, I visited your site, spent some time exploring to see what all was there and then, well, I broke down and played a few of the puzzles. Pretty cool. I was great with a 24-piece mountain. (You build it over a photo of the puzzle -- so it goes pretty fast.) Then I did one of some orchids cut into circles -- no "cheat sheet" this time, and I still did OK.

I was feeling sure of myself, so I tackled one of the slider puzzles -- a 4x4 version of a Victorian home. Oh my, what a humbling experience. I spent way too long on it and was nowhere close to finishing. If I hadn't accidentally cleared the page (or, perhaps not so accidentally) I'd probably still be sliding that pink roof around. On the other hand -- that's the point, isn't it? The greater the frustration, the more powerful the sense of satisfaction when that final piece slides into home (in this case, literally).

•  http://imagiware.com/puzzle.cgi. This one was sent in by Joe Landrum during last Thursday's storms. He wrote: "I enjoy reading your column. The piece on puzzles was great since I am a fan of puzzles like yourself. I did want to share my favorite site just in case you are not aware of it. I have been using this site for a number of years. I have so much fun with it especially on a dull rainy day such as today here in Cold Spring, Ky."

One visit and I was hooked. The page offers what might best be described as exchange puzzles -- they're a cross between a block puzzle and a slider. There's probably an exact term for them -- but suffice it to say you click to exchange one block for another until the image is unscrambled. I worked a couple that were easy and one that was actually harder than it looked. You can view the solution first, but it's more challenging (and fun) to try it without.

•  http://thinks.com. C. Quinn of Fort Mitchell, Ky., wrote to recommend Thinks as one of the best puzzle sites around. In her e-mail she said: "There are daily jigsaw, crossword, word search and codebreaker puzzles as well as archives of all plus more. In fact, here's a list of what you'll find: anagram crosswords, anagram puzzles, brainteasers, checkers, chess, chess problems, Chinese checkers, clerihews, crossfigure puzzles, cryptic crosswords, family fun, freeware, games software, java games and puzzles, limericks, literary trivia, mastermind, nonsense, palindromes, riddles, shockwave games, tic-tac-toe, tom swifties, tower of Hanoi, trivia, word play and word searches."

I can't add much to that except, enjoy!
